“Following Jesus and Loving People”

 

 

If you were searching for a man with an impressive resume, you would skip over Gideon. From the Book of Judges, we discover that Gideon was called by God to deliver the Israelites from the Midianites (who had been cruelly oppressing them for years). But, when God challenged Gideon to take this step, his response was, “How can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family” (Judges 6:15). In spite of feelings of inferiority, Gideon obeyed God and proceeded to raise an army to fight Midian. Interesting, God directed Gideon to do “more with less.” From an army of 32,000, Gideon was left with just 300 men! What was God thinking? Judges 7:2 tells us exactly what was on God’s mind, “You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her…” Amazingly, God routed the vast army of the Midianites with just these brave 300 men.

Throughout the Bible, you read where God wins against seemingly impossible odds. What I take away from this is that we don’t need to think we must have all kinds of people and resources to make a difference. God is looking for a few who will love him enough to simply use what he provides and trust him with the results. He gets the glory, and we receive the joy of seeing God change lives and circumstances. I believe the Lord is telling us the same thing he said to  Gideon, “Go in the strength you have” (Judges 6:14). So, let’s not obsess over what we don’t have, but step out in faith with what we do have! Always remember, the Lord is “able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Eph. 3:20).

K-12th Grade Scholarships

This is the time of year many organizations award scholarships for private school students. Spring Garden Academy is committed to working with families to help them access these opportunities and learn more about the possibilities.  But time is running out!  If you know a family who may need funds for K-12th grades, please contact Amy dela Cruz at adelacruz@springgardenacademy.org or 215-563-9192.  We’re here to help.

We are also experiencing growth at Spring Garden Academy’s Elementary School (K-8th).  Please pray that God will send the families he desires for the school.  Pray that the children he sends will embrace their call to become leaders in this city.  Pray that we will help families find the funding that they need to make this hope a reality.  God has blessed tremendously this year – even opening up doors for complete funding for some families.  Let’s keep praying!  He is good.
