“Following Jesus and Loving People”

A few weeks ago, I met a follower of Jesus from Indonesia. It was as if I knew him all my life. The Spirit of Jesus in him “connected” with the Spirit of Jesus in me which resulted in instant fellowship. To have Christ in your life is to belong to the greatest family in the world! It never ceases to amaze me how God takes people of diverse backgrounds and various ethnic groups and creates a real sense of oneness through Christ. I was reading Ephesians 2 the other day and was struck by the unity of believers…even though some believers were Jewish and some were Gentile (non-Jewish). Paul declared, “For he (Jesus) himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing it in his flesh” (Eph. 2:14-15a). The Jews may have been “the first in line”, but we also have access to God’s kingdom and the Father “by the one Spirit” (v18). As a Gentile believer, don’t see yourself as an outsider looking in, because, “you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household” (v. 19). You belong here! People all around the world are longing to feel a part of something and to connect in a meaningful way with the people around them. That’s why people join all kinds of clubs and groups…and gangs. However, there’s no greater group to be connected to than the Body of Christ. So, do all you can to value your brothers and sisters. Go out of your way to show love and acceptance. As you do, you help reveal God’s kingdom in a tangible and physical way. Our oneness becomes a witness to a watching world. Enjoy    Jesus and your relationship with his people!
